Hi F3Fer's
Thanks to all the pilots that came out to support the USA
F3F Viking F3F team last weekend. We got a race off and the results are
below.
I want to thank everyone for their sportsmanship and
eagerness to run the event. It only goes as smooth as you allow it to. We
had to cope with the unfortunate area of the slope that burned on Tuesday
night and was still fresh for our event. I REALLY wished that the wind
would place us on the “A” slope but no such luck. You guys jumped to help
the event in less than perfect conditions.
The
racing started around 4:00 each day with plenty of time for trim flights
before the wind filled in. Day 1 we flew round 0 and 5 rounds and on
Sunday we flew 3.5 more. The last .5 round was cancelled. The slope and
camp site were well cleaned and the 6 awards were given out. We also had a
pilots raffle with a new 6102
JR radio and hats donated by JR. Servos and hats donated by
SoaringUSA.com. 2
Gulps donated by
SteveDrake.com.
Thank you!!!
The level of flying was very good and the USA should be
well represented in Germany at the VR. (We need to talk Dave Reese in to
going!) Please remember to commit to the VR ASAP we have a few guys on the
bubble that want your spot if you can’t attend the VR.
Congratulations to Dave Reese for his win, he flew superbly
all weekend.
Regards
~ Tom Copp, CD

What a fun
weekend. Big thanks to Tim & Clari Cone for making sure no one
went hungry or thirsty. Those chocolate covered strawberries that Clari
made
were fantastic. Thanks for tracking me down to make sure I had a couple
before they all got devoured Clari.
Thanks to Tom Copp for organizing this event which I think everyone agrees
was well run thanks to all the competitors pitching in to make sure the
bases were always covered. Also a huge Thank You to all the sponsors that
were very generous with their donations to the raffle.
JR,

and SteveDrake.com.
I think everyone went home with a least one prize :-)
As usual, racing at Los Banos means you have to deal with the thermal
lottery that we are all very familiar with. Most pilots were also very
good
at being able to read the air and utilizing the one minute they had to
launch, wisely. I feel very fortunate that I drew some good air most of
the
time and didn't make too many mistakes. Special thanks to Bob, Charlie,
Tim
and Joe for all the ballistic launches that they gave my Y2K.
The truth is there was so much talent out there flying the course that for
most competitors it really did come down to the air you drew. This can be
very frustrating to say the least. Yes, some mistakes were made but after
sitting on Base B the first day and seeing how tight everyone was flying
the
course, it was obvious to me that it would be a very tough competition. We
have all come a long way since the last VRQ two years ago and I have no
doubts that the USA will be well represented at the VR this year in
Germany.
